The problem is what can you find, aside from chomping on a carrot, that fits the bill and will appease children, who may also want their snack to be sweet? What Can You Eat That Is Healthy? When you're looking for snacks to have around the house start with fruits and vegetables. Oranges, grapefruits, melons, pears, celery, and carrots are all good choices. But they could end up going bad in you don't eat them quickly enough. If you turn to canned fruits, choose those that are canned in their natural fruit juices rather than a sugary syrup. By the same token fruit and vegetable juices, you purchase should also be unsweetened. Remember, words on the ingredient list that end in -close usually refer to some type of sugar. Next, you can head for the snacks that have a longer shelf life. These should be chosen by the types of grains they are made with. While grains are better for your teeth. So, think of tortilla chips that are baked, not fried, pretzels, plain crackers, unbuttered popcorn or unsweetened cereal. If you want to make a sandwich, be sure to purchase whole grain bread. Plain or whole grain bagels are also preferable to the flavored varieties. What Can You Carry Around with You? Snacks that can be carried around usually are conglomerates of the snacks already mentioned. If you take nuts, and pumpkin or sunflower seeds, you can mix them with dehydrated fruits and vegetables to create trail mixes. They last a long time, give a variety and are fun to eat.
